Problems with pc due to a strange program

I tried shutting down my computer earlier but it says some program wasnt responding as I was trying to shut down so it gave me the options Wait , Endtask , or Cancel. And when I started up my computer before shutting down my computer immediately asked me this install question about downloading something to give me scratch and win cards and it says I have to be 18 years old to download this. So I shut down and the problem began so I manually turned the computer off turned it on and disconnected my internet modem to see what would happen. When it came to the desktop it says "Error unable to download program ". Does anyone know whats up with my computer?

Well I ran both programs first the Spybot then got rid of all the things on the list , then I ran it again and left alone the stuff that showed up then. Then I had it run on start up. Then I had the adaware run and the program still shows up.

by the way I dont know if this helps but the source of the program comes from www.free-scratch-cards.com

 

Then check to see if you have a browser object from them!

A BHO is like a autostart/startup that only runs when you run the Browser.

This program runs stand alone no install is required post me the items it finds other than the below. Normal entries here would be Acro….. (Acrobat Reader) or Nav…. (Norton Anti virus).


Also is there a program by this name in add/remove!

Can you find any reference to it by a disk search!

thank you so much I went through the Reg Edit to find some of the registries and to delete them and I went into the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Run folder and then came across an unregistered file GJMCLGAX.EXE so I deleted it and searched for the other registries which wasnt on my computer so I restarted my computer and it stopped finally. Thank you mflynn.

Did you do a disk search for this file and detete it also?

Now would be a good time to clean the registry!

Mike is on it!

Once you install RegCleaner, all you will ever really need to do is:

• Click on 'Tools' > 'Registry Cleanup' > 'Do them All'
• Then select the results > click 'Remove Selected' in the lower right-hand corner & you're done - simple as that!

Make sure you download SpyBot as Mike recommended, install, download the updates, and run it before you do this.

 

Are you sure Im suppose to delete all the content by every registry that is picked up after going to Tools>RegCleanup>DoThemall ? Because it picked up some registry files on some school work I had recently done 3 days ago.

By the way my OS is 98SE

These are not the actual files but references to them. Most likely you did them on a floppy and now it cannot find them.

Do it!


Before you run the do them all look below at the individual entries in the first 2 colums for any reference to this baddie.
Tag and remove them!

You can also look at the rest of these entries and if you see a program that you know that you uninstalled long ago then you can tag and remove them also.

But only if you are sure. Any doubt leave them

Then do the "do them all ".

As Mike said, these are not files but rather a note saying, "Hey, this person used this file at one time, man! "

Thanks for the lamen terms : ) seriously. Also thanks Mike for helping me with that program now that most registries have been cleaned my computer is booting up a little faster than it used to as well as loading and closing programs. I hope I can learn just as much as you all. I usually have to ask others for help for I dont have the time to search for things as I am used to because of a family member that is on the computer all the time using for more enjoyment than for business. And my school takes up most of my research whenever I am on so I thank you all for helping me with this problem thank you so much.

well another problem has arose sadly a site http://www.znext.com has now attached itself to IE so everytime I come on to IE it opens up a search to it is there anyway of getting rid of this problem?

Try this:

• Close everything
• Open one instance of IE
• 'Tools' > 'Internet Options...' > 'General' tab
• In the 'Address' box enter http://www.google.com
• 'Apply' > 'OK'

This will change your home page to Google or you may change it to whatever else you want.

 

The thing is it doesnt change my HomePage there was just a pop-up everytime I opened IE that kept saying "...Search...--..
Please enter you search here" then I just decided to type in mumbo jumbo to see where it would take me it took me to another pop-up so I did the same thing and it finally took me to a site called znext.com then I went and deleted all the Temp. Internet Files, Clear History , Delete Cookies and it still came up. Then I came on and posted my problem earlier.

Well the pop-up was still harassing me to do a search even though I changed the home page. I went through my history button and it keeps pulling up the My Computer and a Java file called Z so I deleted and went in the the My computer itself and deleted another file called Javabh with it and it seems to have stopped Im not sure it was very odd.

Yes I did that before I wrote on here as well along with ad-aware and they didnt pick up anything.

Are you sure you are updating Spybot and Adaware correctly?

This is possible to come from spy/adware or a virus/trojan or worm. Normally if an up to date SpyBot don't get it, it comes from not spy/adware but the virus/trojan etc.

So the first thing to do is update your SpyBot and rerun

If this don't work get Adaware also update it and run

Finally to manually remove it, this should be the last thing only if the above don't do it. The above gets the original cause! It is possible for one of the above to find and eradicate the cause and leave these entries.

So:


This will require a registry edit to correct, just follow my instructions exactly

Start-Run
type
regedit

This is the registy make sure you see the "MY COMPUTER at the top, click it once to hilite it.

Then hit ctrl F (to find)

type in

znext.com

click ok or hit enter to search.

when it is found hit the delete key while it is hilited. This will delete that entry

then hit f3 (to continue search)

do this untill it finishes should find 4-5 entries.

Delete only the hilited item!

For reference below is an example entry.
