    For some reason when I boot my PC, the Windows Explorer screen shows up, as part of the Boot Process.

    This only started recently and I have been unable to discover the reason for this.

    I would like it to just "go away" and would appreciate any assistance.

    Many Thanks.

    Have You installed any new programs recently? Possibly at the time this nuisance started?

    It happened to me when I installed a program on Win98 when the destination folder wasn´t the normal one. The normal folder was "program" (swedish) but the installer chose to create "program files" and install it there.

    I know this is a long shot since You´re on WinXP but I uninstalled the offending program and reinstalled it, directing the installer to the normal folder.

    It would be interesting to know if this helps,
    Christer

    Could you post the contents of your boot.ini file?

    This is it, but there is not much so maybe there is some other file I should have posted.

    [boot loader]
    timeout=5
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS= "Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS= "Microsoft Windows XP Professional (#1)" /fastdetect

    I should add that I have 2 hard drives, basically identical in all respects, the second I use for backup only.

    Somethig else which has only just started also is that I am now getting "stack overflow" messages, and I do not have the slightest idea what to do about those.

    As I said before, any assistance would be much appreciated.

    That looks normal enough. Exactly when in the boot process does explorer pop up, and what is in its window?

    Hi, Crick ~

    Your boot looks OK.

    Are you sure this is an explorer window? Can you possibly post a link to a screenshot?

    Thanks to all for the help, but I decided I had wasted too much time on this so I re-formatted the drive.

    If you hear of someone committing suicide by jumping off the Empire State Building, you will know that my problem has re-occurred... :D
