    O/S Win ME;Ever since the MS critical update "Explorer 6, Sevice pack1" was issued, I have been trying to install it. It downloads without a problem, but when activating the Setup, it quits after about 75% (on the progress bar) and tells me to re-try.
    Have attempted many separate downloads, but none succesful.

    Empty the temps and TIF files and try again. Could be badly fragmented drive or need to run scandisk to repair clusters and such.

    If no joy, Try redownload SP1 and give it another shot?:)

    I am using Windows Me, although I have a Catroot folder in Win>system, there are none in the Win>system32 folder. Any other suggestions??

    Don't touch the Catroot folder, but if you have Catroot2, then proceed as directed.

    I would
    delete all tempory files >start run msconfig startup tab
    Uncheck all but the two load power profiles, explorer and systray
    connect to internet minumize and restart the install,
    I cant remember if we must be online even after dowloading ?

    OR

    Any luck yet ?

    You could try this too
    =================copy-paste====================
    You are not the only one with this problem. There is however a solution and
    don't ask me how it works but it does work.
    (control panel folder options view tab,show all hidden file & folders)
    1. got to c: program files/internet explorer/ uninstall
    2. right click inside the uninstall folder and select properties.
    3. in the properties uncheck the hidden files option and click apply
    4. move all of the files in the uninstall folder to different folder,
    preferably one that is empty somewhere else on your system.(DO NOT DELETE
    THEM SIMPLY MOVE THEM)
    5. restart your computer and check to see if the uninstall folder is empty,
    if it is not then select the remaining files and put them in the same
    folder as the others that you moved in step 4.
    6. Now reinstall ie6 and it should completely install, after which you can
    move the uninstall files back to their original folder.

    let us know

    I can't tell you if its ME specific.
    I went throught the procedure above where you move the files out of the uninstall folder,rebooted, then tried again to complete the set-up which worked this time. I noticed uninstall folder was again loaded with files, but I also transferred the files I originally moved back into the uninstall folder.
    Again, thanks to all for the help.

    BruceKrymow Hi

    " is it WinME specific?" the fix..
    No I think not, nor would it be IE6 sp1
    any install that hangs with no error messages, just a prompt to try again..close some programs and try again...
    But seams a common problem with IE6sp1 install's on an win me system.

    " "It downloads without a problem, but when activating the Setup, it quits after about 75% (on the progress bar) and tells me to re-try.''''
    ============
    Every time (over the last two to three weeks) I attempt
    to install SP1 I get a message "Setup was unable to
    install all the components. Please close all applications
    and try running setup again ". This comes at the 91% point
    in the installation.
    ==========
    mijnarf Hi
    I cant take credit for that >geee< am please to here good news.
    Im as far from a genius as any one person could get.:)

    ===============================
    Dont forget to read This article

    You may(will) have to tinker with cookie setting, security also, things get changed, depends on the version we started out with and if we had changed things before etc etc etc....
    ======let us no if you have any questions?

    so if anyone else having simulur problems happens by==
    and actualy tries searching
    ============================================

    Setup was unable to
    install all the components. Please close all applications
    and try running setup again ". This comes at the 91% point
    in the installation.
    fails at any percentage

    move the uninstall files dont forget to move them back....
