I have a copy of the ntdll.dll v.5.1.2600.1177 that solves the memory-management problem introduced when MS changed the memory configuration in SP1. This can speed some apps by a factor of 10.

Message me if you want a copy.

How do I install the Windows XP SP1 fix?

I downloaded the fix for the XP SP1 problem to my Windows Desktop today after contacting Microsoft last week. I "think" I installed the fix -- I ran one of the extracted files from the Desktop via a Wizard and the slow response problem seemed to be fixed. However, there was a second file which yielded a folder containing ntdll. I didn't do anything with this second file -- just double-clicked and the folder with ntdll was extracted. There weren't any instructions in the .txt file that was included in the download, and I am not sure I have everything installed where it should be, but the system's performance seems to be alot better. Is there something else I need to do to complete the installation of this fix?

Look at the version of ntdll.dll in System32 folder. It should be v. 5.1.2600.1177 and 654,336 bytes. Eventually, this new version will replace the old one in LastGood, etc. You're done if it is there.

Check in Add/Remove to see if the hotfix is listed.

I am also having slow loading times for applications since installing XP SP1 and was interested in this thread about replacing my ntdll.dll V.5.1.2600.1106 with ntdll.dll V.5.1.2600.1177 which is supposed to me available from Microsofts web site (or any other location) but I am unable to find it, does anybody know where I can download this file.

    Thanks
    Paul

Since I'm unable to find the original site, I have decided to put up a hastily prepared site so my good friends at WindowsBBS can download this memory fix that we have been discussing.

    http://users.adelphia.net/~abraxas/

I hope you all find it useful. Information on this fix can be obtained at the Microsoft link above.
