I upgraded my pc from win 98 to win 2000. My computer will not turn off by pressing the power button. With win 98 I simply selected shut down on the start menu and it would shut down automatically. With win 2000 It tells me it is ok to turn off my computer which I cant without unplugging it. Is it possible to reconfigure my computer to shut down completely like before or is it a hardware issue?

Will the computer turn off if you hold the power button in for ~4 seconds? Thats what I have to do with mine.

To make it turn off when you shut down I *think* you goto
control panel>power options>APM>check the box to enable

Most computers these days have a delay on the power button as a safety feature. Never know when someone will accidentally bump the power button!

Usually there is a setting in the CMOS that will let you disable the delay so the computer reacts immediately when you hit the power button. Just don't accidentally bump it or you lose your work!
