I am having problems trying to download and install the Windows xp service pack .
I use the update page and select the service pack but after all the checks etc it trys to connect to the server to download and then I get a message that tells me:
an error occured while attempting to download, the operation has been cancelled.
If I try again it still will not download.
I have tried your suugestion to delete the CatRoot2 contents but it still does not work.
All other updates download and install OK.

Yes it is the Service pack 1 (Express) that I am attempting to download.
I have deleted the "CatRoot2" file you suggested.

Unless you have a slow connection, you might be better off downloading the entire service pack. You can then save it to CD or elsewhere and you would have it handy if you needed it again (for a reinstallation, for example).

You could then install it from your computer rather than piecemeal from the web, too. And, if you add new Windows components later that have updates in SP1, you would not need to go back to Windows Update to get the new SP1 components.

That is the best way! Download it to HD then install!

But also when you do the install terminate all startups, "ALL ", including virus scanners and firewalls.

Then cleanup very good both internet and windows temps.

    Then do install!
