My screen has a green tint. I don't know why or how to fix.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

    Hi, Mike ~

How long have you had your system or this monitor?

Is this a desktop or notebook? What brand?

    When did this start?

Mike, it is very difficult to help you over the internet with no information. Help us help you :)

Yes, Please! More information would help considerably in suggesting a fix.

In addition to what BruceKrymow asked. Have you installed a new Video card. If so, AGP, or PCI. What brand, & how big? Monitor drivers? etc, etc.

Have you checked the Monitor plug on the back of the computer to make sure it is seated good. They do wiggle loose a bit, even when tightened down.

The Monitor is a Sony Trinitron and is about 8 years old. My system is a 450 MHZ Compaq about 3 years old and is a desktop model. I have not installed any drivers or cards. This green tint started while nobody was on the computer and no windows open. We were just sitting on our couch when someone noticed the screen had a green tint. Need more info let me know.

    Hi Mike1Webster
I have a monitor like yours, that does the same thing, but mine's from a loose wire. (One of the ***** thingies came off) If I jiggle the chord just right...the green goes away. Perhaps yours is as simple?

That looks like I have a potty mouth.
I honestly didn't say a bad word up there.

    Mike ~

Sure someone wasn't smoking something green? (jk)

Wow....Sony Trinitrons have always performed well for me. I have one that is 22 years old and just died and one that is 12 and good as new. I had a red tint and after some digging around in the guts, I found a cracked solder joint and a quick spot solder fixed it.

This surely sounds like a hardware issue, Mike. As Daizy recommended between swearing :D you could try jiggling some cords to verify a loose wire or solder connection. You will then need to decide to try your hand at a 'Home Improvement' move or replace the monitor. If you don't want a used one, then at today's prices it would be well cost effective and time to move up from that 450 MHZ Compaq.

Actually, I mentioned the Monitor plug first, but who's counting? ;)

I did so, because that happened to me. Jiggling the plug stopped it. However I haven't as yet re-seated the little female thingy's in solidly to help prevent it from happening again.

Not saying that is your problem, but it seems to have been mine.

Please let us know what's happening.

    :D :p
And still I can't think of an alternate word.

Yes, you did indeed mention the monitor plug first Deloris, ya smart duck. :)

I just wanted to point out that it was the "male thingy" on mine that was broken. My "female thingy" is just tickety boo.

Are we still talking about monitors?

'Tickety boo'? I don't know what that means, but I think I like the way it sounds!

All this technical talk about wigglin', jigglin' and female & male thingies had me worried I may have accidently stumbled on to pillowtalk.com

    :D

LOL, what's a smart Duck? Is it good, or bad?:D

Well a loose female, or male thingy gets the same results on these contraptions. :D

I am frequently moving **** around working on stuff, having to unplug the monitor, & over time the little female thingy inserted in the back of the comp will work loose, and have to be tightened back up, or a monitor sc-rew will get twisted in two.

I know what you mean by the words we try to use. 99% of the time those words are used in perfectly appropriate context, but the program blots them out because someone "might" use them inappropriately. Therefore we have to try to think of alternatives, and sometimes you just plain can't.
Yes, I think so. I hope so anyway. :)

I wiggled all the thing a ma jigs but no success. I still have a green tint. I have a monitor coming over tomorrow and I'll test and see if it is the monitor or something on the mother board.
Let you know then what it is, In the mean time any more suggestions as to an easy fix.

    Thanks for posting back Mike1Webster.

Can't think of anything else right off the top of my head.

My experience with the green monster was the first time for me, but I had also just recently installed a new bigger, faster Video card, so I naturally thought it was the culprit, due to conflicting Monitor & video drivers. Hubby reached back & pushed in on the monitor plug & bingo, the green monster went away. Mine was flashing light to dark green almost constantly. That really messes up the brain & eyes.:)

I did have a conflict with the Video & monitor drivers though. Even though the green monster was gone, my colors weren't right. I had to take extra measures to correct that. With lots of suggestions from BillyBob, who has the same Video card, I got it fixed.

My monitor was bad. I ran a test from sony for my monitor and my monitor failed. Also borrowed a different monitor and it works okay. Thanks for the help. Now to decide what route to go.
New computer or just a monitor.

    Hi, Mike ~

I don't know what your needs may be, but since you mentioned you have a 450 MHZ Compaq about 3 years old, it is probably time to get a new system unless you are really happy with what you have and choose to purchase a cheap monitor or get hold of a good used one. Anything more would be putting a top hat on a pig. :D

My feelings about Comcraps aside........ ;)
My first reaction was...... "I've got a flat tire.......should I buy a new car?" :D

I'll bet with little effort, you can purchase a used monitor quite cheaply?

Do you have a link for that test you ran for your monitor? Sounds interesting.

Now, Im not sure I agree with that. :)

If this computer serves your needs, even a new Monitor would be much cheaper than a whole new setup.

You can get a new 17" monitor now for about $160.00. Maybe less. It's those new fangled flat, thin ones that are high as a camel's back.

I know, I know, you can get a whole new computer for $800.00 or so. Sure ya can. But with my pocketbook, 160 compared to 800 is a big difference, especially if my existing rig serves my needs just fine.:)

    Hi, Deloris ~

I understand from where you are coming, but you have to assume the unspoken in this case.

What was mentioned was '450 MHZ Compaq about 3 years old'. Well, we know that 450MHz is indicative of a processor likely more than 3 years old and you are wise enough to figure out the the relative Bus speed, RAM, & HD space, not to mention the chipset, video card, sound card, modem, etc. that is assuredly antiquated as well.

This said, a cost-benefit analysis will demonstrate it would be financially feasible and prudent to upgrade an entire system at once rather than the inevitable piecemeal hardware (and required software) replacement, especially if one is not advanced in technical savvy.

I suppose you do have a point, or two there, BruceKrymow.

It used to be that the Hubby was the hardware person, and I was the software person in our house.

I taught him all about Windows, & the associated parafinalia while he peacemeal rebuilt the old computer I gave him to keep it running so he could learn to use one. Now he is teaching me the aspects of replacing hardware parts. :D Worked out pretty good that way. :)

Someday, I plan to build one myself, if I live long enough to be able to affored it.:D

Thanks everyone for all the help. I wanted to let Daisey know the address I used for the self test on my monitor.http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/
It had self tests for monitors if you follow the display link and then model Number. Hope this info may come in handy to someone sometime. I did find another monitor for now for $10 from my employer, one that they had put up for auction.
    Thanks again to everyone.
