    Well here I am again. This time I have an Environment problem. I am studing "Microsoft C# .NET" on line. I have been instructed to modify the Path Environment varaiable. I added the string for the course and checked it in a dos window. Didn't take. In fact the existing strings didn't all appear when I checked in the dos window. Here is the variable string :
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft.NET\FrameworkSDK\Bin\;
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET\Common7\IDE\;
    C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.0.3705\;
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET\Vc7\bin\;
    %SystemRoot%\system32;
    %SystemRoot%;
    %SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;

    Here is the dos window test results :
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft.NET\FrameworkSDK\Bin\;
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET\Common7\IDE\;
    C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\F

    What could be wrong with my system??

    Windows XP Home Edition
    Build 2600.xpsp1.020828-1920 (Service Pack 1)
    AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2200+ 1.8 GHz
    512 Meg Ram
    100 gig 7200 rpm Western Digital

    Are you opening the DOS window with
    start~run~command which gives you a fairly stupid 16bit version or
    start~run~cmd which gives a 32bit version?

    I just tried and using the 16bit version and the path command wasn't pretty. I also didn't see lots of stuff that I know is there and that does show up in the 32bit cmd window.

    Glad that was it. And wish they had either left command off these systems or something. Lots of folks who came up from earlier versions have been bitten by that.

    FWIW, I can't think of a reason you should ever want to use the 16bit version any longer. There may be an occasional old app that needs it but for normal use, start~run~cmd is the way to go.
