Does anyone know why I would have to replace my battery twice in a 2 year old computer? I start losing time, then the message "Cmos battery low" comes up. I replace the battery and all goes well for several months.

    Thanks!

Is this a consistent message or does it happen jjust on rare occasions? It could be a false positive.

If the CMOS batter is really failing, there are two possibilities:
You just got unlucky with two bad batteries.
Your main board has a defect.

Although batteries will sometimes last several years, it is recommended they be replaced once a year.

My message has come up once a year, maybe it was 9 months this time. I have a feeling, from your help, that it is a main board problem. I'll also keep in mind the info. about replacing the battery once a year.

Thanks so much for the help!

I have had several PCs and the oldest is about 4 years. The battery remains active regardless of computer usage so an inactive computer or in my case a shelved computer's time counts. I have never had any clock problems! Nor would I consider replacing once a year.
