Using Win 98 SR Dell Pentium II- recently decided set power saving. Set to turn of screen after 10 min idle- all went well till the next day when I rebooted the screen did not turn off EVEN though the settings I set were still the same AND the apply button was greyed out. Now when I go t this are and click OK it works for that day but does not work the next day when I reboot.
Yes, I even "saved scheme" to be "always on "
    It's a mystery.
    Any suggestion?
    Thank you kindly

I believe this is a known bug in Windows 98. I've never heard of any way to fix it though maybe somebody else has. It's more of an annoyance than anything since I only reboot about once a week or so.

    power scheme not keeping

I found the solution - it was amazingly simple.
All I had to do was run MSCONFIG go to start up list and check
"Load Power Profile" I'd unchecked it a long time back and forgot.

Sometimes the most "complex" problems have really simple solutions.

If only the U.S. government would realize that.

    Thanks

Glad you fixed the problem. Thing is, I just ran msconfig and my startup list doesn't even have "Load Power Profile" listed.
