I have several users that are using windows 2000 pro, and attached to a Novell 5 Server.

    Problem:

Users are dragging their home directory to goodness knows where.

I have delete inhibited the directory but, this keeps the folder in-place, but allows the documents to move, and it will NOT allow the user to remove any directory below.

There must be a way, to prevent a user from moving their home directory.

    Thanks for your help:D

    MAP ROOT the home folders

This will cause the folder to appear as the top level of the drive

Dragging the folder to another drive will still be possible but a warning will be flagged and it will, by default, be a copy and not a move.

Windows 2000 is a real pain for this on NW networks

    You may also try this...

Use the GPEDIT command and set up group policies.
    Start Run, gpedit.msc

Yes it will, you will set restrictions and permissions here as to what 2k can and cannot do!

This shows how novell gets in 2ks way! Smile!

    Robin,
If you want to fix the problem of your users messing with applications, erasing folder or even prevent them from moving files, you can set up a Group policy on the local system which will stop them from doing so. Every good system administrator knows that with NOVELL/WINDOWS and even on cluster with a Unix Environment the local system can be used to stop users ( "WHO ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO MESS WITH THINGS THEY ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO DO ") from messing with items at the lower level. You can also set permissions through the Tree and with a Domain. This could be done even with Novell 4.11. If you really want to know where your users have moved their home folders just check the event viewer on the administration tools MMC on your Windows 2000 systems. That is, if you have set up good policies for the logs to show what you need.
