I have a problem with Word 97. When I open it, the window does not appear. I have to go to the taskbar and right click on it, then choose 'maximize' to see it. The if I try to 'window' it, it disappears again.

The window seems to have gone 'offscreen'? Any way to get it back?

    Thx.

    Many questions:)
Dont got a clue except that suspiciuos

Till figured out --On a windows ME system I would R/click on that icon select properties and in the run slot have it open in a normal window or maximize---or change it and change back.

Might be similur controls from within Word

I tried changing between minimize, maximize and window but windowed is always offscreen. Isn't there a way with keyboard keystrokes to 'center' a window? I think that would bring it back to the middle.. don't know the keystrokes offhand though...

    Win98 (4-10-1998 w/SP1 installed), not SE.

Just started appearing off-screen a few days ago.
It opens 'windowed' but the window is not on the available screen area. If I r-click on it in the task bar and choose 'move' or 'size' the cursor goes to the furthest bottom right of the screen, but I can't drag the window over, making me think that the window os off-screen. I CAN maximize to use Word (r-click menu again), but reverting to windowed view causes it to go off-screen again.

Only Word is behaving like this, no other S/Cs.

I also couldn't find the keystrokes to 'center' a window.

Yeah, tried that, but no help. Even tried making the resolution larger to get more screen, but Word window is nowhere to be seen.

I downlaoded the SP1 and Sp2b patches. I installed the Sp1 successfully, BUT when I tried installing the SP2b patch it says to install the SP1 first, that I am still at base level. Ridiculous since I just installed the SP1. I tried installing the SP1 again and it gave me the same 'successful' message at the end, but SP2B won't install again. Either one or both of these patches are screwy. In any case won't waste any more time with patches. If they don't want to install properly not going to beat my head against the wall about it. I doubt they would fix my problem since it doesn't really relate to Word but windows itself in my opinion.

The problems remains: how to get the window back.

Was fiddling around and FOUND THE ANSWER! Wasn't Word specific, just as I surmised.

    PROBLEM:
An application Window is off-screen and inaccessible:

    FIX:

    On the Task Bar:
-Right click on the open Word (or other app) icon
-Choose 'Move' from the popup menu option. This will LOCK the window in 'Move' mode.
-Use the ARROW keys to move up/down and across in the direction you want, depending on where the window is off-screen (may have to hold down the key for a while to see the window finally appear on the desktop)
-Once the window is in a safe position on the desktop, click the mouse anywhere inside or outside the window (NOT on the window edges). This will take you OUT of move mode.
-Now close the window. The next time you open the application, the window will be back on the desktop.

I was on the right track before, had tried using the move and size options, but was using the mouse instead of the arrow keys. While showing my brother the problem it ocurred to me to try out the arrow keys and voila! Sometimes it helps to go over the problem with another person... even if they don't help makes you think of more possibilites to try <heh>.
