Thanks for the alert - now got it. Fixed one of my 4 bugs: it now downloads mail from all my ISPs/Accounts on startup.

Might have cured the "moving messages" problem - not had any strange ones with odd dates appear.

Hasn't fixed the "can't use mouse clicks to edit" one.

    Getting better, though!

Thanks for the feedback Keithj! Will be waiting to hear from sled and tranquilo and their experience with 0.9.8.

From the Release Notes, it looked like this Release should be nice and stable as compared to 0.9.7.

Let us know after you've used it for a few days. I have it downloaded, but not yet installed.

Thanks always to tranquilo for the heads up!

    Hey y'all,
Well, I've seen more page code with this version. Don't know if it due to lazy writers or 0.9.8.
Still has problem loading some frames also.

It's faster than anything else, so I'll keep it. :)

    Hey Ramona!

Does it make any difference if I install Java seperately? Let's say I install NS without Java, and install Java from the link you provided, will Netscape use that?

It should work with N6, and possibly NS4.x too. Additionally, it will work with Mozilla and Opera.

There is also a new version out... 1.4 rather than 1.3.1_02.

    Hi Dr. JB,

If you already have Netscape installed, i.e., prior to installing the Sun Java Plugin:

Go to C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.?\bin\ (or wherever you installed the Java Plugin) and copy the following files into your Mozilla/Netscape 6 plugins directory (C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape 6\plugins\):

    NPJava*.dll (* being version #)
    NPOJI600.dll

The same would apply to Communicator.

Thanks Ramona. Good to see you're still alive :) Would I have to un-install old Java version before installing new Java version?

Something a little way of topic of this thread. Why does NS treat Javascript different to IE? After all, NS invented Javascript, didn't they? I hate to say this, but it seems that IE executes Javascript a lot better.

    Dr. JB,

You already have an older Ver. of the Sun Java Plugin installed? In that case, yes, I would uninstall it before installing an updated Version.

As to the why and wherefore of the Sun - Microsoft power struggle, who knows? Some developers would argue with you that MS Java is not better than Netscape. My personal opinion is that Netscape is working toward compatibility, while Microsoft is intentionally trying to wreck it.

    FWIW,

    Ramona :D

Please note I said Javascript, not Java  I personally do not like Java as it takes a little while to execute (especially in NS) and therefore prefer JS which is smaller and quicker.

The least said about MS, the better! I'm having major probs with WinXP Pro right now, so won't be inviting Mr Gates for dinner.

Oops, so you did, and I missed it!

Sorry to hear about your problems, but not surprised, and there seems to be a lot of that going around lately.

You may want to alter your Java 1.4 installation info for NS.

Your old info (and I quote) :
Go to C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE\1.?\bin\ (or wherever you installed the Java Plugin) and copy the following files into your Mozilla/Netscape 6 plugins directory (C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape 6\plugins\):

    NPJava*.dll (* being version #)
    NPOJI600.dll

    New info :
    NPJava*.dll = there are 3 files, *=11,12+13
    NPOJI600.dll is now NPOJI610.dll

Whether the above is neccessary, I'm not sure as I've noticed after 1.4 installation that whenever NS starts, the Java console starts automatically (and I've not copied the *.dll's over). Likewise when quitting NS, Java console closes.

Perhaps NS will now be better at handling Java and JS than IE ;)

    Dr.JB,

Thanks very much for the heads up on the new version of the Sun Java Plugin! I will definitely add that information to my Solutions, Sun Java page.

Wouldn't it be loverly if NS could, just this once, outshine IE?
