When WinXP loads up, the logon screen is like Win2000. I might have messed some settings. Going through 'User Accounts; that setting is fine i.e. both 'Use the welcome screen' and 'Use fast user switching' boxes are ticked. Can anyone help??

What does it look like exactly? Like a windows 2000 screen? Do you have to press Ctrl Alt Del? Does the userid and password prompt show right after startup?

When XP starts up, box appears 'Log On to Windows' and then I enter my username and password. I don't need to press ctrl-alt-del. After I logon, and if I press the windows key and L, a box appears 'Unlock Computer'.

I don't follow. In windows XP, when you press Windows key + L, it locks the screen just like you press CTRL ALT DEL and select lock computer.

When you sayid in your original post that its like Windows 2000 ... what is like windows 2000? Which screen? Right when you boot your computer? When your screen is locked?

    Ok. Lets start again...

Booting my computer is the same as before (WinXP)

I get a 'Log on to windows' box when xp starts up as opposed to the normal logon screen with the differents users.

So users have to type in their username as well as their password. Windows XP then starts up normally with the users individual settings.

If the windows key + L is pressed once logged on, a 'unlock computer' box appears as opposed to the normal logon screen.
The point i'm trying to stress is that the logon screen doesn't ever appear.

In control panel > user accounts, both 'use the welcome screen' and 'use fast user switching' boxes are both ticked. So I know this can't be the problem.

I hope this makes it clearer. Thanx
