Not sure what you mean ..
    - you open Windows Explorer and it has a black background ?
    - when you exit Windows Explorer you have a black screen
instead of your wallpaper ? If this is the case, right click on an
empty part of the desktop. Click Properties and then the Display tab.
    What do you see ?
    regards

    dissappearing wallpaper

i mean periodically when i open windows explorer or refresh my desktop occasionally my wallpaper will turn to a solid black background, yet when i open the desktop properties and look in the wallpaper ta/background tab its still set on the correct setting and i will have to change it to tile or stretch then back to where it was and hit apply to bring it back up again- this happens about 4 or 5 times a day and would like to know whats causing it to do this all off a sudden... just very annoying is all

When 'view as a web page' is checked it affects the desktop as well as windows explorer.

Try it, if it doesn't work you can always change it back.

I am guessing that you really want that wallpaper on the desktop, and it is a JPG file. What you need to do is get IfranView [free], and open the JPG file that is your desktop, then Save As the file as a BMP file. Turn off Active Desktop, you will see your wallpaper disappear, then rechoose your wallpaper, but instead use the BMP file. Why is this you ask? It is because a JPG file needs Active Desktop to work, while a BMP file does not. Active Desktop has problems such as you are experiencing, and your computer will run better without it.
