configure a vpn server

    Having only just had ADSL available I was very keen to set up a VPN server. However 2 x weeks down the line and I am still no closer to getting a connection.

    I have configured the server following Microsofts installation notes to the letter but when a client tries to connect they keep getting error 678 if pptp is specified and 800 if it is set to automatic

    Does anyone know of a step by step guide that also includes the way in which a vpn pass through router shoul be configured on the same vpn server. I am obviously missing something but don't know what !!!

    Although uncommon, have you confirmed that your ISP(s) is not filtering GRE packets? If PPTP passthrough is working on the router, PPTP ping should be successful. Is it? There is a troubleshooting guide here but it would probably be quicker to test with another router/VPN device.
