I unintalled MS JVM following the instructions in last week's issue of windows-help.net newsletter. I then installed the Sun JVM. But when I try to go to sites in IE 6 that use JVM I get a message that JVM isn't installed. I checked the settings in the Java Control Panel and Internet Explorer advanced options and they look OK to me. I am running XP Professional and attaching to the internet through DLL.

    Arie,

That page also tells you how to remove the MS JVM. Do you actually have to do that in order for the Sun JVM machine to work, or can you just install it & make it the default one.

    Hi Arie,
I did not try to install the older Sun JVM since I did not get any error messages while installing.

I haven't tried, but the point is that if MS JVM is still installed you'll be vulnerable when new bugs are found and not fixed...

    I suggest you try anyway.

I got the error, but the SUN site indicated that the Sun JVM was installed successfully, however quite a number of Web sites wouldn't work.

Two suggestions--1. If you want to install the latest version of the MS Virtual Machine go to this link: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp and search for MS Virtual Machine. Install it and then: 2. To run Java go to Tools-Internet Options -Advanced - scroll down to MS VM and make sure that JIT Compiler for VM is enabled is checked. I think you will find that some sites will NOT show properly with Sun Java. That is by design of MS :)

You can search what you want, you will not find it! Microsoft is no longer supplying their own VM!

If you want MS VM, you'll have to use 3rd party Web sites to get it.

I don't want to argue with you, but it is in the site I listed above. Click on the link. Choose your OS (mine is Win98), click on Advanced Search. Make sure all posted dates are selected. In the box that says Contains these words type in VM. Check the Critical Updates and Service Pack box and click on Search. You will get 1 result and when you click on it it is the VM and is 5.1 Mb and the latest posted date is March 25, 2003. I know it calls it a security update for VM, but it is actually the newest version of the MS VM. You might want to read this also:
