Please forgive me for taking up some of your time but I'm having a problem,. Its simply that before Outllook sends any message from the outbox it kind of hiccups for about 30 seconds or so before it jumps into action. Perhaps this is a setting problem, I'm not experienced enough to solve this on my own, any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Best wishes and thank you.

By "hiccup," do you mean there is about a 30-second delay between the time you tell it to send and the time it actually sends? If so, it's probably trying to connect to the mail server.

To find out, in OE under View>Layout, make sure "Status Bar" is checked. Then, as soon as you've told the message to send, double click on the lower right corner of the OE main screen to bring up a smaller window that will show you more detail about what's going on behind the scenes (you might need to click on the "Details" button on that smaller window).

If a delay in connecting to the mail server is the cause of the "hicuup," it can be caused by several things - a slow overall connection, slow/overloaded mail server, router not configured to optimize mail handling and a sluggish/misconfigured firewall are three that come to mind.

Oh yeah, another cause for delay is an anti-virus program set to scan email before it is sent.

Thank you Buddy, will have a look at the options you have suggested and get back to you....the firewall sounds possible, also the McAfee virus checker...
