    Hi everybody,
After installing WIN98se There is no CDROM drive in windows. I used a boot disk (3 1/2) to start the install, and it installs fine of the CDROM but as soon as windows runs for the first time there is no CDROM drive, nor are there any Disk drivers installed for one..
Any ideas as to what would cause this??
Any ideas as to how i can fix it??
Ive already tried a number of differebt drives, and that makes no difference. I think it may be hardware issue, cause ive never seen this ghappen before...but i could be wrong..

Any help or ideas woulf be very good

    Regards
    Redghan

    redghan101,

A couple things that I would try. Check all connections to the drive and remove your CD-ROM in Device Manager and restart your system. See if it is installed by Windows when it starts up.

Its not insatalled in device manager.. Only the IDE, FDD drivers are.. But ive just found out that the IDE drivers arnt installed correctly and i need to find the ALi 1521 chipset drivers, and i cant find them anywhere on the web.. The actuall IDE driver im after is the "Ali M5219 IDE "...
Do you think not having these installed would be the prtoblem..and if it is where can i find this stuff..Ive looked on Ali website, Driuverguide...Yahoo general search..

    regards

    redghan101,

No CD-ROM listed in Device Manager, huh. Have you tried finding new hardware through the Control Panel? Is the drive listed in SAFE mode? Generic Microsoft drivers should work just fine. At least they always have for me. Also, check your Setup Utility section to see that the drive is detected and in the startup order.

I, also, can not find any listing for your ALI chipset anywhere. Even without this driver, I would think that the drive would show up somewhere. Did you check all connections to make sure that were correct and tight?
