How do I remove a PS/2 compatible mouse port. I am using a serial mouse as there is no PS/2 mouse port physically present. However several Win98SE installs later and still a conflict shows up in device manager with a PS/2 mouse port. Removing device in DM and on restart it shows up again. Can't find anything in the American Megatrends BIOS to shut off a PS/2 mouse. If I use mouse properties and "Disable in this hardware profile." the conflict shows up in DM with a Red X instead of the Yellow Explanation mark. The serial mouse works fine with the PS/2 conflict, just don't like to see conflicts in device manager. Should I ignore the conflict?

The red X just indicates that it has been disabled. I know how you feel about nothing sticking out in DM, but if disabling works, smile and live with it. I had to disable my onboard video that way---works fine and will prevent future conflicts.

But, I have had a lot of problems with many computers using serial mice. Why not use PS/2 or get a USB adapter and use PS/2 there?

Ok, thanks, I will disable the PS/2 and live with the red X. This is just an old PC I was fixing up for a disabled person to use who has virtually no income but a pressing need to get access to the Internet.

I comfort myself by thinking that the red X is only bad if I didn't put it there deliberately ;) .
