    Hello:

I know that one should remove any DUPLICATE entries that appear in ( SAFE MODE ) Device Manager . . . but should I remove ALL entries that appear in Safe Mode that are not appearing in ( WINDOWS ) Device Manager ?

    EXAMPLE:

In (Windows) Device Manager, "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" . . . there are only FOUR entries.

However, in (Safe Mode) Device Manager, "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" there exists these same FOUR entries . . . plus about EIGHT other entries.

I don't notice this in any other categories in Device Manager.

SHOULD I REMOVE THE "EXTRA" ENTRIES that are appearing in (Safe Mode) Device Manager ??????

    FACTS:
In this category was a DUPLICATE entry . . . "Microsoft Streaming Tee/Sink-toSink Converter" - so I removed them and restarted the computer thinking only ONE entry would reappear.

After restart, I rebooted again and checked (Safe Mode) Device Manager . . . and this removed entry was not redetected and did not aprear again.

I think it had to do with "DirectShow" and I hope I haven't messed up my DIRECTX 8.1 installation by removing it.

    Win98SE

    Thank you.

Stuff that only shows up in Safe Mode, is stuff that's been there, and is now gone. They're all safe to remove.
If you find that DX is messed (it won't be), just reinstall it.
