I have just done a major upgrade including a Gigabyte 7VAXP Ultra motherboard an Athlon 2200+ processor and Windows XP. ( from Windows ME...eeeeuk )

I have 2 problems which I suspect have fairly simple answers ( I hope ). The first is that the comp will not auto shutdown. When I turn off the comp it eventually ( 30 secs) comes up with 'it is now safe to turn off your computer' message, but the fans etc keep on running until I push the button. The 2nd is a message requiring me to go to an 'ereg config form for Valid CDcode build. Most of the sites I have been on refer to pirated games but this is a genuine copy of MOHAA which I have been playing since Christmas and would like to continue. The EA support line is 60p a min so they will be a last resort.

Woodpidgeon - welcome to the forum.

Your shutdown issue can have several causes. Easiest for you would be to do a search, use shutdown as the search term and limit it to the XP section. Lots of previous discussions on causes and solutions. If you don't find anything that fits your situation or still have questions, you can post back with specifics.

As to the other, you'll do better making that a seperate post in the applications section of the forum. Lots of apps experts and many of them never look in this area.

    Hi Newt

Thanks for the reply. It would appear that the compatability mode was still set for Windows ME. After unchecking the box it resolved all the outstanding problems and now all is well.
