Since the day I have reinstalled Windows 98 SE, and whenever I press that handy shortcut key within Microsoft IE Address bar: Ctrl+Enter

It doesnot seem to do anything! I have even updated my IE to the latest version available at Microsoft website (ver 6.0.28...), but it is still not working. Any suggestions?

    Hi farooq
I'm only here to add my sympathy. I tried it on mine (First I had to look up what the short cut was supposed to do)....and it doesn't work on mine either.

    got google?

"Open Internet Explorer, click Tools, then Internet Options..., click on the Content tab, then click the AutoComplete... button, now check the Web Addresses option in the window that pops up (my guess is that it will be unchecked when you get there). Then Apply your change and Ctrl+Enter should work again. "

edit in: got more google... "highlight the address (press ctrl-tab until the address is highlighted) and try ctrl + enter again. "

    hth

    :)

It adds the htpp://www to the beginning and the .com to the end of an address entered in the address bar. For example if you typed windowsbbs in the address bar and then pressed CTRL and ENTER it would change it to http://www.windowsbbs.com and your browser would be directed to the site.

Daizy' reply above contains a link (click on the words look up) to a page that contains the explantion and key combinations for all kinds of shortcuts.

    :D

Nice guess, mr.mark - Checking that option did work - I had have to keep that checked), but isn't it strange that many of the IE browsers that have that option (Tools->Internet Options...->Content-> Auto Complete->Web Addresses) unchecked, and still that Ctrl+Enter shortcut key works!

actually it wasn't my guess, it was a quote from a google search result. <g> as for it being strange, etc, i've learned that sometimes there is no particular rhyme or reason for why one thing works and another doesn't. sometimes what's most important is just getting it to work.

and the reason being this option is checked instead...

( Tools -> Internet Options... -> Advanced -> Browsing -> Use inline AutoComplete for Web addresses )

by checking the above option is the right way to get shortcut key working(Just incase one being curious ;) )
