I have Windows XP on my computer. Approximately once every three hours of computer use, my computer, all of a sudden, re-starts on its own, thereby causing me to lose whatever I have on my screen. Can anyone tell me what I should do to stop this situation? This never happened to me when I had Windows 98. Thank you very much for your response.

A few possibilities: Maybe heat or a Software problem.

Have you cleaned out the dust from the case?
Could be heat causing the PC to reboot. Try blowing the inside of the caes out with canned air (remove the cover first).

Have you installed any new software lately?

Does this happen while in use only or while sitting idle?

If you feel like it is a XP problem then try this
Goto Control Panel, open Performance and Maintenance, then click on System this will open the System Properties window. Now on the system properties box click on the Advanced tab, at this page go down to where it says Startup and Recovery, then click on the Settings button, on this page go to the System failure box and uncheck the box for the line that says Automatically Restart. This will make Windows give you a Blue Screen and error message then you can trace the error message to find the problem.
