Several users on my network are having problems with winword.exe generating errors and closing word. It seems to be "spreading" to other computers but no viruses are detected on the server or local machines. There is seemingly no pattern to the start of the problem. The problem itself is somewhat random. Using shortcut buttons on the toolbar will cause the error while the same function out of the file menu will not. Sometimes the error occurs immediatly after opening Word itself. All users are running on Windows 2000 using Office 2000 with SP3. Here is what I've tried thus far.

    Uninstalled and Reinstalled Office
    Scanned for viruses: none
    Disabled Virus software
    Disabled Templates
    Deleted Normal.dot
Deleted all winword.exe from registry and reloaded Office
Deleted Vbe6.dll then ran Office Repair
    Reset the toolbars in Word

None have worked. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    Zach

    Hey ztoelke...

I'm not sure if this will help but I was getting a Winword.exe error on a few (5) workstations running WinXP Pro SP1 with MSOffice XP SP1. I found that our problem seemed to be with a MS Patch (810847). To find out if it is installed open Windows Explorer and click on Windows...it will list out all the "Uninstall" folders for the MS Patches that have been installed. You should see 810847 listed there if it has been installed.

Anyways I added the link to my thread below maybe it will help.

    No dice.
I have a pc with every update freshly installed getting the error and I have a pc that I formatted, reinstalled Win2000, installed Office and got the error with no updates. I've read other cases that linked this problem to network printers, but not all of the computers on the network are getting the error.

I've had similiar problems but with a mobile user taking his laptop home. Winword craps out shortly after starting with this error. The machine at work authenticates to NT server and his default printer was a shared HP color printer on a Win98 box. Somehow because the PC couldn't find the HP printer Office would crash. Change the default printer and it's fixed. Maybe not what you are running into but an obscure problem no less.

ztoelke - since you have the problem on at least one NT box, you can probably get good detail from an event log error. Post that here and someone can probably help you out.
