Inbox Total Messages number is incorrect

The top area of my Netscape Messenger screen shows 7 "Total Messages ", when I have NO messages showing in the box. And it shows 8 when I have only 1 actual message the box. And so forth.

Anyone know the cause of this problem?

Netscape 4.5, 128b encription, Windows 98

 

Are you seeing this in Messenger or on the page where you get your mail?

Who is your mail provider?

 

Click on the view\messages and make sure "all" is checked.

 

Solved it! Hooray! The problem was on the page where it shows the list of messages in my mailbox.
And yes, I had "ALL MESSAGES" checked. I went to VIEW, MESSAGES, and checked "ignored threads ". Bingo, the 7 previously-invisible messages showed up in my inbox. I have no idea what "ignored threads" means or how this happened (but shall remember in the future!!).
Any insights to offer?

 

Somehow the messages got marked to be ignored. If you right click on one of your messages you will see an entry in the menu that says "ignore thread" (you can get at the same thing in the message menu). When you choose to ignore a message you'll see an icon appear just to the left of the subject that indicates that you want to ignore it. You can also choose to ignore the messages by clicking once on the subject and then use the "k" key on the keyboard. Perhaps this is how they accidently got marked. The rest is pretty easy to follow. Uncheck the ignored threads in view\messages and it hides those that were marked ignored. I don't use the feature for email myself as it seems those I want to ignore get ignored real good when they're in the dumpster. If you do any reading in the newsgroups however, it does come in handy there at times.
