Goodbye forever Spybot

NM, forget I wrote anything. Spybot's still a good program, but they need to work the bugs out of the new version.

shadowhawk--works great for me--seems your the only one having problems.

i can assure you that shadowhawk is definitely *not* the only one experiencing problems with Spybot's most recent version upgrade and detections update. in fact, a great many are having difficulties.

from most of what i read, much of it can be traced back to severe server overload. but other issues exist, too.

i just hope shadowhawk can find the instructions he needs to get right with this program.

I also read of very heavy server overload and a good tip is to was to wait a few days to the load sow down.

 

Well it's been 4 days. How much longer do they expect us to wait? This program's useless till it's updated. You'd think they would've included new sigs with the new version download.

 

When I downloaded the newer version 1.2 everything went fine. But when I tried to download the updated definition files, Spybot kept on freezing- I had to ctrl-alt-del to close the program. I tried every mirror site and the only site that did anything was the Pure-Elite USA. The file seemed to download O.K. but then I got "bad checksum" error. Finally, I tried to download again - the program appeared to freeze - I walked out of the room, and when I got back the update had downloaded successfully from UniDo (Europe). I was just too impatient the first time and thought the program was not responding when it actually was.
the program is now working great!

 

in case you are interested in the experiences of others, i am very accustomed to having to do precisely what you think is so unusual... that is, download a new version and then have to update the signatures or definition files. it is a very common practice, in fact.

i would add a small reminder of my own.... Spybot is freeware. it sometimes puzzles me how individuals can overlook this very basic fact and climb all over the author because things aren't going exactly the way they think they should.

With a program as remarkably good as SS&D, people have a tendency to get impatient, but a lot of other people are doing exactly the same thing, so the servers get inundated.

It took me several tries to get the last updates, but I kept trying about once or twice a day until I got them.

I had one update download that seemed a bit strange awhile back. Every time I ran Spybot, it showed double entries on everything it found, but after the next update, that was fixed.

 

Yay! I finally got the update! I know Spybot's freeware, but I did contribute the first time I downloaded.
