    One day, the monitor blinked off and on again. After that, IE couldn't load or use any pages with some javascript or other scripts... Several diagnostic tools have been disabled (system restore), and some of the HTML integrated into Windows XP isn't working (search)...

    I've tried reinstalling IE, but that has failed...

    Any suggestions?

    Hi blkmage
    Welcome to the boards. Is it possible you may need to do a repair/ restore?

    In addition to repairing XP you should also run your virus scan software.

    Then right click on the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop and click on the General Tab click the Delete Files button under Temporary Internet Files, and then the Clear History button.

    Then open Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\ "Your User Name "\Local Settings\Temp and delete the contents.

    Run Disk Cleanup, if it is accessible.

    Then, if you don't already have them, download and install the following programs;

    Ad-Aware

    Spybot

    BHO Demon

    Run Ad-Aware first, then Spybot, then BHO Demon.

    If you're virus software is also effected the following links are to a few free on-line virus scan services;

    PC Pitstop

    Housecall

    McAfee Security

    HTH

    Do you mean search isnt working ? left panel, using the icon?
    I havent seen it here but at MS IE newsgroups this is common,
    they havent detemind why or how to fix yet

    One temporary fix is to merge a small reg file--by google so that when clicking the search icon the google search appears,
    I cant seam to find right know --maybe the others here would post it, although that is the least of my concerns at this point.

    Or just use you homepage search or from address bar

    Regards to all that ask and help

    here it is
    http://www.google.com/options/defaults.html
    Internet Explorer

    For Windows: Download this file to make Google the default search engine for Internet Explorer versions 4.0 - 6.0. (Note: you will need Administrator privileges on your computer in order to install this file.)

    The "search" button will bring up a Google search box down the left side of your browser.
