Icons that change

I am having some concerns regarding icons that change without me changing them.
Usually Ms Word has a big W, Solitare show a deck of Cards etc etc.
About 5 of my icons changed. I tried to delete and bring them back onto my desktop through settings, but that didn't work. Hit properties, attempted to change them and re-apply, but to no avail. If anyone understands this , let me know. I did install some programs like Vidiomi, but no configuration errors showed up. I went to systems to see if there were any conflicts of any kind. none

You may have a corrupt ShellIconCache file - it's in the WINNT folder, and it's hidden. You'll need to change your folder view to see it. Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/View - check the box "show hidden files..." and uncheck "hide protected... ". Once you can see it, delete it. Windows will start rebuilding it after a reboot.
