    Is this what you're looking for?

    Right click on "My Computer" icon on desktop.

    Select "Properties" from the pop-up menu.

    Click on the "Hardware" tab

    Click on "Device Manager" button

    Scroll down to your CD Drive, right click on it and select properties from the pop-up menu.

    Hey Rancher

    I have Nero Burning Rom Software and it is blessed with a "Nero Infotool" which gives that info. Maybe your software will do the same?

    Thanks for the input. I hadn't thought of looking there. For those who use Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 you can open "Easy CD Creator" and click on Tools|CD Drive Properties or open "Disc Copier" and click on File|Disc Drive Properties. Both will open the same properties window which shows the Firmware version.

    You can go into msinfo. It will give you the information. PNP device id under components.

    Rancher:

    There are a couple of different ways of accessing MSINFO.

    I use the classic menu in my XP system so this may not be exactly how you see it if you are using the XP Start Menu;

    Click on Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Information or;

    Click on Start>Run and enter MSINFO32.exe "%1" (include the quotation marks when entering) and click on OK.

    Once in System Information click on the + in front of Components. In my system I then click on CD-Rom and on the right side of the window look for PNP Device ID.

    Maggie:

    I use to be able to access MSINFO that way when my system was new. For some reason, I think it was a registry cleaner, entering MSINFO32 now starts the general page of Help and Support. Apparently others have experienced the same problem and the solution is to include the "%1 ". This problem is discussed in greater length in the following thread System Information won't start in Windows XP

    I've don't use registry cleaners. I don't trust them. I would rather do any editing on my own. At least I know what I did. People begin trusting those cleaners and get into way more trouble than they are worth.
