Hard drive thrashing

    hello,im running winxp pro-amd 2100-gf4 4600-80gb 7200 wd hd-512 ram 2700ddr.i notice that my hard drive is kinda but not real loud when i surf the net dl andor using software.its always been this way.i know that hd are noisy,but is there anything i can do other than add more ram so it wont thrash as much.raise virtual memory,swap files ect..if so please be specific.thanks for any post.peace

    You can download a program to do a diagnostics on the hard drive from:

    http://support.wdc.com/download/#dlgtools

    I have a wd hard drive. My first wd hard drive was noisy from day one and in less than a year it died. My advice to you would be to back up any important files now including downloading any updated drivers, etc and putting them onto cd.
