"You say the drive is listed as 5 in the registry. Perhaps I'm missing something here but can't you look at drive 3 or 4 in the same key and see what the data values are for them? "

Alas, I can't look at the other drives because the only ones listed by numbers under "Autorun" are those that actually use "autorun" instead of explorer. In other words, drives 1, 2, etc. are not shown, which is why I'm looking for them to see what data values they use. I assume they are listed somewhere, but I have not yet found them.
What I have found under File Types is that Explorer is used for the icon Drive. We all assumed this, I think, but this is the first actual confirmation that I have seen.

" Otherwise I have no idea other than BB's suggestion. While viewing the drive in my computer right click on the drive and choose explore. "

Actually, right clicking and choosing Open does the job quite well. However, as I've been trying to point out, fashioning a work-around has long since ceased to be the problem. I'm just trying to understand where this is addressed in the registry and why I can't find it.

Here is a little quote from my registry book.

You see a value entry called NoDriveTypeAutoRun. This value entry indicates the drives for which Autorun.Inf is disabled. It's a four byte binary entry, and each bit corresponds to a different type of drive, as described in table 14-5. Setting the bit that corresponds to a drive type to 1 disables Autorun.Inf for that type.Setting the bit to 0 enables Autorun.Inf. The default value 95 00 00 00 (or 1001 0101 binary), which means that hard drives, CD-ROMS, and RAM drives are enabled, whereas other drives types are not. Change this value to 91 00 00 00 (1001 0001 binary) if you want to include removeable disks such as floppies and Zip disks in the list of drives for which Autorun.Inf is enabled.

    Table 14-5

    0 Unknown Devices
    2 Removeable Drives
    3 Hard Drives
    4 Remote Drives
    5 CD-ROM drives
    6 Ram Drives
