Is there such a thing as a notebook with a standard (desktop-size) PCI slot in it, instead of (or in addition to) PCMCIA slots?
I want to put together a mobile composition studio (with orchestral instruments) using a midi-composition program (Encore). I would ideally like to put an SBLive 5.1 in it. I am worried that the components in my old desktop are not designed for travel (e.g., hard drives). But taking the desktop in my van is another solution.

My third solution is to use a notebook MIDI card. I found one, the EXP Midi card. But then I have to drag along several other black boxes.

I have a couple of shows I've worked on for a long time, and I am now circulating them to theatres. I need to prepare for getting what I asked for -- a chance.

I'm the bearer of bad news...there's no such thing as a laptop with PCI slots. :(

You can, however, get docking stations for some laptops with PCI slots.
