    Hi Guys

I use Norton System Works 2002 (have used Norton Utilites for years). I frequently use " One Botton Checkup" (a batch consisting of 7 different routines) after program installs, uninstalls or as weekly maintenance. I ran the routine, which includes "Registry Scan" and it found NO errors. Then downloaded "RegScrubXP ", installed and ran .. it found 57 errors it wants to correct. Now I've never excepted Norton to be.. perfect .. but is RegSrcubXp that good? How does a user after 15 years commons sense experience, gone through 4x systems, NEVER lost a OS/HD yet.... BUT stays away from the internel workings of the "Registry File" as if it's a mix of the "Holy Graile" and "Hell hath no Fury ". Some where between Norton = 0 and RegScrubXp = 57 is a correct answer. HOW does one find it... painlessly?
Keep in mind... my computer's vote is "I feel fine ". I run fast, do anything asked, start up and shut down smoothly.... so is there a problem?

Yes it is that much better!

But why take chances do a full backup before you do it.

I can only say that after having run RegScrub, I have yet to find any problems as a result.

Norton was abandon a long time ago--it caused more damage than it helped and I needed to reinstall some apps and reregister others after using it. Don't trust it.

    Hi Guys

After Registry backup, do you recommend allowing RegScrubXP to repair/delete ALL the problems it found.... all at once or break down by group? Keep in mind guys, I have NO UNDERSTANDING of the workings of the Registry file. If the program does not perform correctly, hopefully the "restore function" for RegScrubXP does. In addition "GoBack" will have a "Safe Point" in front of this registry cleaning. I attribute "most" of my luck of NEVER losing a system is staying away from areas I don't understand. This breaks the rule.

    Mike,

Get your point, but its a matter of perference. Nothing has to be done all at once, especially if new at it as the original poster appears to be. Wouldn't it be wise to keep in mind the comfort level of the user? Break users into this sort of thing gently?

I use RegScrub as a companion to jvpt, have experience with registry cleaners.

    Regards - Charles

    10-4 Charles

Sure it is a matter of choice! I only advise! Final choice is yours.

But Paul the original poster is not a newbe, just has a new XP computer.

And he said the right thing to me "that he was backing up before "!

You are right about the nessesity if a new computer, in most cases, but try it especially on a new HP and it will almost choke the registry cleaner. Almost the same for the Dell and Gateway.

They use images then overlay patches of software to customize the computer to the customers request.

And besides even a full install of Office will produce plenty of dead links.

    Mike

    PS

General note: If anyone buys a new HP, Dell or Gateway one of the first things you should do is uninstall all of their junk. Dell.net Gateway.net Hp.net and AOL etc. including Microsofts adware AKA Online services which includes more AOL. THAT IS IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO SIGN UP FOR THEM!

    Thanks Guys

Appreciate all the advice, concerns and insight. As you already have guessed, RegScrubXP performed flawlessly. First time user I had the registry file backed up 3 ways from Sunday. Used InCD for the first time, had some problems, but will start new thread for that discussion. Will/Would like to download correct version of RegScrub for wife's w95 computer. That box has been maintain by "RegClean ". Good, bad or ugly?

    Again..
    Thanks

    Hi Guys

"Curious minds would like to know" per some of the file's contained in RegScrubXP.
    HKCU.cmd and HKLM.cmd when clicked, build HKCU.reg. and HKLM.reg... why 2 files?
Should this process be done each time before making updates to registry or is there a auto build option?
Does it write over the same files, autodelete or should I manually delete the old HKxx.Reg files before executing the .cmd request?
I assume file "backup-021229-16283.reg" contains all the changes RegScrubXP made to the registry. Delete this after the next equivalent file is created? And finally.. what is the file path for the registry file? My current file view displays hidden files, hides system files. Gee's, curious minds sure are a pesty bunch. Thanks for the education

These are backups from before it runs. Something goes bad restrore this one.

Del the older ones a few days later if nothing ever crops up always keep the last.

    Hey Mike,

haven't downloaded it yet, but i was after a good Registry backup & cleaner, preferably all in one and I was just questioning whether RegScrub did both????? Or do I need to download a separate Registry backup proggy to supplement Regscrub ????

    Cheers
