In the last few days I have started getting pages to popup
and have to end task on rundll and/or other items to get it
to stop. if i leave it alone it eventually floods memory.

I use a popup stopper and this is not the cause because
it does it with or without the popupad stopper running.

The windows say (or maybe titled) Cannot find server
or cannot find internet explorer. (or similar).

I might get 50 popups in 20 seconds this way then they disappear into the tray.

I have deleted temp file folders, run antivirus, defragged the
hard drive, reset internet explorer advanced options to defaults.. all with no luck. It happens not 2 to 3 times a day and is very
    annoying.

am running Win98, Internet explorer 5.5

    Any ideas
    Thanks

Hope it works. You should delete whatever Ad-Aware finds.

This little app may come in handy. It is really worth quite a bit on those rare occasions that these cascading IE's get out of control. It puts 2 new buttons on the IE toolbar, one that closes all instances of IE, and another that closes all "other" instances (all IE windows except the one you are working in).

OK I may use that. Touble was I couldn't get an IE window to stay
up long enough to do much.

I regularly get rid of the temp files using boot to prompt if i have to.

So far it hasnt done it again.

The program has the options of putting shortcuts in QuickLaunch and Start Menu if you can't get to the one in IE fast enough.

I got the SpyBot S&D and that seems to help.

Haven't had any recurrance of the multoiple popup windows.
Seems to run faster too. thanks for the link.

I guess the adaware software has to be purchased right ? no
    free version.

The ieclose didn't help - tried that and couldnt get it to close the
30 or 40 windows until i finally got an out of memory message.
    (before getting spybot).

Still get booted from yahoo games some and was wondering if
anyone knows how to reduce that.

Am using ytunnel and have modified filter1.txt for messenger.
perhaps having messenger on while in games causes a problem too -- seems to happen less when messenger is not up. but
still think some of it is hacking. any suggestions.
(i'm not talking about the occasional losing of the server which
is bound to happen occasionally - but rather getting locked up
or booted from a game and not able to log back in unless i reboot)

    Are you using a firewall?

Yes, there is a very good, free version of Ad-Aware on their page.

What kind of connection do you have? If you are on dialup, there may be no easy solution. Does your ISP disconnect you if it detects no activity for a period of time? It really is amazing what they consider "idle" sometimes. I guarantee that if you look at ads on their page, they won't consider you idle.

Check the properties of your connection, too, to be sure you don't have idle disconnect enabled.

There are a lot of freeware apps that will attempt to keep your connection alive. An old trick is to install AOL messenger and put your own name in the Buddies list. It keeps the connection alive by checking to see if you are online.

I realize that you were talking about getting booted from the games and not, apparently, from your connection, so I may have wandered somewhat ;) . Getting booted from games on dialup is not unusual since the games have built-in timeouts on your responses and dialup's speed can vary wildly from moment to moment. Any difference at 4 AM?

    What is "ytunnel "?

IE6 equiv. to NS7.1 Popup Killer

NS7.1 has a GREAT native Pop-up Killer. So, if IE6 is the be-all-to-end-all browsers why can't I find such a feature in IE6? I can not even be running IE6, and I get Pop-ups from it. Is there anything my ISP (NetZero) should be able to suggest?

    Thanks,
    George
