    Hey,
My wife and I each have our own computers, both using Win Me, on Pentium processors. We thought it would be a good idea if we could connect the two computers together and connect to the internet all at the same time, preferrably through my computer.

So, I went to my friendly neighborhood money hungry computer shop and purchased two U.S. Wireless Access PCIMCIA cards with related hardware and software. We tried to make sense of the instructions for installation but just got nowhere. So, I went back to the shop and asked them to make them work for us. Which they did, but by adding a wireless DSL Router/Access Point.

Well, it gets complicated. I can talk to the internet via the router, but my wife can not seem to access the router or my computer, although the activity icon says that we are connected.

Is there anyone out there who can help us solve our connectivity problem?

As a first thought - I'd avoid that shop in the future.

And the following are for your wife's PC unless otherwise stated:

    - TCP/IP running?
    - Can she ping the router's IP address?
    - Can she ping your PC's IP address?
    - Is the router's IP address set up as her gateway address?
    - How are your IP addresses and subnet masks assigned? Static or via DHCP from the router?
    - What IP address and subnet mask is on each PC and what's the router's IP address?

    Okaaaaaayyyy!
When it comes to networking, I'm just a babe. The terminology you used in your response is all Greek to me, and I don't speak, read, write or understand Greek.

-I've heard about TCP/IP, but not about whether it's running or not.
-What does "ping" mean, and where do we find an IP address?
    -What is a gateway?
-What the heck is a subnet mask? and what does it mean for it to be static, and what is a DHCP?
-Where do we find the subnet mask?

If I sound pretty stupid, that's because I am when it comes to networking. It sounds like I need a course in PC networking, ??? ... I guess I need to find a good book on the subject and a patient mentor to help me sort out this mess. Ugh!
