Something has happened to XP. None of my tasks will run any more because:

"The attempt to retrieve account information for the specified task failed "

The account information is correct as it works when I log in. I am also unable to schedule new tasks for the same reason. Obviously something is corrupt. How do I uninstall and reinstall the scheduler or otherwise fix the problem. TIA.

I found a little more information that might be of help to one of you XP gurus. When I try to look at the properties of a scheduled task in the task manager, I get the following error:

    General page initialization failed.
    The specific error is:
    0x8009000f: Object already exists.

Of course it does or there would not be any properties menu to click on.

I also installed SP1 which did not help either.

If you have changed any of your service configuration, be sure the Task Scheduler service is set to automatic (and Remote Procedure Call of which TS is a dependency, but chances are it is already automatic or you would have other problems).

If you have no login password, use one.

Have you made any changes to your path variables?

Make sure that the Protected Storage Service is running and the task is not running under an account with a blank password (re-create the tasK).

There is a registry fix described here

Thanks for the replies. I was also having other more severe problems so rather then fight it I decided to wipe the HD and reinstall XP. That seems to have cured most of my problems save one. I'll start a new thread for that one.
