I currently use Netscape 4.79, and want to switch to ver 7.02. When I install 7.02 it does not retain most of the bookmarks or the mail settings and mail messages I have under my profile for 4.79. My profile and other information such as mail for 4.79 is kept in a separate directory for C:\Program Files\Netscape, but on another drive. How can I install 7.02, and retain all the old information?

    Welcome to the Forum, rg88!

    Hi rg88,

When you installed Netscape 7.02, it didn't pick up your 4.79 Profile, as it was on another drive. Am I understanding you correctly?

If so, you can manually copy all the information in your 4.79 Profile.

    Bookmarks:
Copy the bookmark.htm file from your 4.79 Users directory to your Netscape 7 salted file
    C:\Windows\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt
    (Depending on your OS)
    Rename the file bookmarks.html

    Mail:
Copy the mail files without the SNM extension from your 4.79 Mail directory
Paste the files into your Netscape 7 mail directory
If prompted to replace the existing files, answer YES

Caution: they will replace any existing files in the new Mail folder. You may first want to rename the Communicator 4.79 Mail files, e.g., change Inbox to OldInbox, etc. The renamed files will appear in the Netscape 7.0 Mail. This will ensure that you lose no existing mail.

    Address book:
In Netscape 4.79, export the address book as an LDIF file to your HD
Import the LDIF file into Netscape 7

If this is not perfectly clear, please let us know.

    Ramona,

Thank you for your reply. However, I would like to keep the profile in same directory, and not move into 7.02 directory - in other words I want to keep the same structure as before with 7.02 using and saving profile information in the same directory I was using for 4.79.

    Hi rg88,

Sorry, but that is not doable. Netscape 7.02 is not an upgrade to Netscape 4.79. These are two unique programs. Netscape 7.02 is an entirely new application, being developed from the ground up.

    Ramona,

Okay, thanks. If I do find a way of doing it I will post it on this thread.
