I have downloaded MBM 5, temp ins operating around 40c. When I went to download upgrade, I could not because of missing NTDLL.DLL : RtlGetNtVersionNumbers, I have reloaded OS & IE, but this has not helped.
I imagion the file was wiped out when I was house cleaning. How do I reclaim this lost property & where do I put it?

These cleanups do not erase dll's unless they are in a temp where they should not be.

Do a search for the file to see if it exists anywhere on the computer. If not here is where to get it. Put it in windows\system32.

    Correction to my last post.

The file should go in the \windows\system folder not system32.

Sorry you had to reinstall windows but hope you did an overlay install so that you did not lose data or installed programs.

Thanks for recomending EasyClean. the first time I ran the usless files mode, WOW, came up with a 1/2 meg of trash. Only problem I have with it now is that when it lists the files for deletion, If it picks up some active temp files that are locked, you have to delete the files arround them because the Delete All function hangs on the active temp files and tells me I cannot delete it because it's locked. Not a major problem because I still am able to delete a ton of useless files. just an extra step to get it done.

Usually this type of cleaning should be done immediately after a reboot before temp files are opened.

Additionally sometimes spy/adware or a virus will put one there immediately.

To be sure and get them all do the cleans from safe mode! Then you will not have that problem.

    Hey Mike

I was doing the clean up that you posted with the command promp in the start up. back in post 2 or 3.
Anyway, when I typed in "deltree c:\windows\*shelli*.*
It was coming up with more then one.

It said delete shelli 1 then shelli 2 and 3.
Should there be more then 1 ?

Sorry, but like I said before this makes me a little nervous

and about the printer spool, this will not effect my printer?

    Thanks Mike
    Geri

btw, I keep getting fatal exceptions on shut down. That's what I'm trying to figure out how to stop. There seems to be different ones not always the same F E.

This cleanup cannot fully complete if run from the run command! Even if you use the exit to MSDOS shutdown!

The instructions state boot to command prompt by hitting F8 to get the boot (safe mode menu) menu and then choosing "Command Prompt only ".

    2nd

if you typed "deltree c:\windows\*shelli*.*" then you typed it incorrectly, should not have the first *. Should be as below.

    deltree c:\windows\shelli*.*

Be extremely careful of leading * in del commands. DO NOT USE THEM IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW IT WORKS.

ALL OF THESE COMMANDS "MUST" BE TYPED EXACTLY!

Yes there are other shell*.* files that should not be tampered with. And no the "c:\Windows\spool\*.*" will not effect your printing.

Remember in this case we are cleaning the spool folder not deleting the actual folder its self.

Do this cleanup correctly then see if you still have problems and get back to us!

    Good luck

    Mike

PS sorry so late getting back to you as I have been away on business since mid week and only arrived home at 1:30 AM this morning.
