    Hi,
Our computer came preloaded with IE 6.
When we go to Add/Remove program IE 6 is not on the list.
How can we run the Repar function on IE 6 when it is not listed in the Add/Remove program?
    Thanks for any help.

Have you tried the repair feature via system information?

I checked my system Information, and under tools are several useful utilities, however internet repair is not one of them on windows 2000.

I have seen Internet Repair on Windows 98's system information, does anyone know how to get this tool incorporated into w2k?

    Thanks:D

    To Robin:
Close as I can come...How bout this:

    http://www.valink.com/jeep/IE/Repair.Command.Line.htm

Don't know if this is the standard recommended method to do an IE6 Repair as I do not use win2k and have not searched the database for past references to prescreen for ya', so you may want to wait for second opinions or different solutions.
    =============

For the more standard problem and solution read mscom nfo paying attention to win2k sections:

    Thank You Ann,

It works, now I wonder how to "add" that to system information? I have been searching the internet and can't find any reference to do this yet....

Do you think Microsoft left it out in Ver 6 for W2K?

This was a fantastic tool in lower versions of windows....

    Thank you again Ann,

    Robin:D

    To jslow,

In addition to what jazcan has offered:

The ability to Repair Internet Explorer does not exist in the version that ships with Windows XP. This feature only becomes available after you upgrade to a newer version. This is normal and has been this way since Windows 98 and IE4. However, you can reinstall IE in Windows XP.

[Edited out until I can investigate this run line. Wouldn't want versonitus.]

Your most welcome Robin. I wasn't sure if that would work. It was just a link picked out of a search.

I'm afraid I'm win2k ignorant and dare not offer advice on how to use this runline. If it were win98 it could made into a bat file ran by a shortcut that could be put where ever one wanted.

Perhaps if you asked for that How-to in the win2k forum someone will come up with info needed.

    Hi,
Thanks to all for your suggestions.
I read on one of the posts that if your browsing is getting really slow, try the repair function in IE 6.
Since IE 6 is not listed in my Add/Remove program, I posted this message.
I tried Arie's suggestion to run sfc /scannow and will now see if this helps.
I also posted on IBM's site and they suggested installing SP1 which I tried but that was a mistake. I couldn't even boot into windows with SP1 installed. All I got was my background display; no icons, nothing. So I booted into safe mode and removed SP1.
That was a wasted three hours.
    Thanks again.

Nickhm, on a previous thread posted a reply he received from MSN support for repairing IE6 in winxp.

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=77893#post77893

    Windows XP:
    1. From the desktop screen left click on Start
    2. Then left click on Control Panel
    3. From Classic View select Add/Remove Programs
    4. Once Add/Remove Programs is Open click the Windows Components button
    5. Then highlight Internet Explorer and click Next
    6. Let the bar finish. Click next.
    7. Click Finish and it is suggested to reboot.

    Hi jazcan,
I tried your suggestion but nothing seemed to happen.
What is it supposed to do; add IE 6 to the Add/Remove program?
Nothing was added to my Add/Remove program list.

I don't think it is supposed to add it to your add/remove programs. It is suggesting that it is already listed there under windows components. Did you open the windows components button then highlight IE and click next?
I know that this method worked for repairing IE6 for Nickhm and he is also using winxp. It probably reinstalls IE onto itself hopefully fixing any problems.
Sorry that nothing seems to have worked so far. I know how frustrating it can get and how very time consuming these things are.

    Lonnie,

Thanks, I found it interesting that "by design" Microsoft decided to "do away" with this feature. It was a handy tool.

    Thank you for the article.
