The RingDisc is a multimedia CD of Richard Wagner's "Ring of the Nibelungen ", containing 14.5 hours of music on ONE CD. [Talk about compression!] Published in 1997, it is playable on Windows 95, and Windows NT. Anybody know how I can get an XP driver for this?

It also states that it's playable on Windows 98.

Is there a program on the disc also that'll enable you to view the photos and also enable you to listen to the music?

If you already have the disc, then place the disc in the drive. Open a media player, go to File/Open and then search for your CD drive. It should list what's on the CD disc, if so select one and play.

I'm assuming with it having close to 15 hours of media on it, it may have been put on as data vs. as an audio disc. hth

"It also states that it's playable on Windows 98. "

The disc was purchsed in 1997, before the advent of W98. It may run on W98, but that's beside the point, since I only have XP on my machine, and wouldn't dual install W98 just for one item.

"What does it do now when you try to play it? "

It plays about 10 seconds of introductory music, then screens the message: "Now loading ", at which point it aborts. This leaves me to believe that those first 10 seconds are uncompressed, and the loading procedure is the key to uncompressing the main 15 hour program.

I've examined the contents of the CD, and tried to open or run each of the various files. Absolutely nothing works. Remember, this thing contains not only 15 hours of music, but the complete piano-vocal score, German and English libretti, running commentary, over 100 essays and explanations, full-color images, analyses of major sections of music with hypertext links to specific occurences, and total search functions of everything. This thing is so massive, and such a technical marvel that, when it was released in 1997, the NY Times devoted almost 1/2 a page to it. Or, to put it another way, this is one big mutha.

The only hint I can get from lots of searching is this thing was designed for 16 bit audio/video rather than what you are probably set for now.

It may be a matter of having do "dumb" your system down whenever you want to play it. Or possibly different audio/video drivers. Or it may just not be willing to work with the hardware you are running.

That whole thing is so far away from areas where I know enough to make suggestions I'll just post this and hope someone else has a clue.

I tried every way I could think of to make a shortcut that would include the compability tab but no luck.

If you have friends with XP, you might see if someone with a different system can make it work.
