CD Tray opened -- Stuck / Jammed

5 month old system. The CD tray was bump when in the "OPEN" position. While there appears to be no obvious misalignment, the tray does not budge when activated. The gears appear to all be free and meshed. The belt / motor / gears all torque up when switch pushed.... but tray will not move. Have forced / slipped the tray in and out (suggested by local bulider) a couple of teeth moves at a time, then pushed button, always jammed conditioned. This appears to be an OEM clone drive. My guess it is a LG brand. AIDA32 states Model ID as 32x12x48 CD-RW (which is correct speed and type) but states Maufacturer ?, device type ?, speed ?. Any ideas how to get the tray unjammed and in proper allignment?

 

Take drive out and remove top and see what's happening. If you force the drawer open or closed, you're going to break it.

Have taken them in / out, but never took them apart. Once the top cover is off, tray, slide guides, drive system sitting on top of the drive and somewhat exposed / accessible?.... OR ... is it layered and you keep removing intil you get where you want to be?

 

They are really pretty simple. I wouldn't try to go too deep as a CD drive is pretty cheap and not worth a lot of heartburn.

 

Whilst its true that drives are pretty cheap the solution to "Dennis L" is even cheaper - free except for undoing a few screws.

The same happened to me a couple of weeks ago and I too was ready to buy another but thought I would have a go first.

Removed the drive, opened it up, rotated the centre disc a few times and saw the gears moving about. Moved the "quadrant" which moves the gears, reinstalled the drive and its working perfectly.

By all means throw it away if after attempting a repair and it still does not work.
