Already posted this question in applications. Maybe this is the place for such questions relating to my printer which is Lexmark X83.
I want to scan & copy a text document & save it to a file.
I am operating Windows XP. I have read instructions ???? & would just like to know if there is anybody out there who can explain exactly what I should do!!
Would appreciate any help with this problem
Please ! ! ! as I have no problem copying pictures etc., it's just with a text page that I want to copy. There is a button "text" (OCR) which I was told is the button to use when doing this type of copying. Did that & when saving to file, the file is unreadable ! !
    Thanks to all,
    Lucy:confused:

For example, when I attempt to scan text, I open Microsoft Word, go to the file menu, choose acquire, and scan right into Word.

What program opens up when you attempt a scan?

I'm scanning right from my printer box that appears on the screen, printer being Lexmark X83, I choose the button with text (OCR) & then scan to file or application, then I can save this file into word. There is an abbyy reader that is suppose to translate this file into text, which at the moment is not doing. So I scan text file as I would scan a photo. I hope I am making myself clear on this, & have even contacted Lexmark support centre, their answers didn't help with this problem either, only stating that I should post this problem with the abbyy reader technical support site. This is the program that is suppose to translate the file readable!!
Appreciate your time in trying to figure out this, but have almost given up, as it sort of works when I do it scanning as a photo.
The only advantage scanning as a text file, is then you can edit said file, whereas you cannot if you are scanning as a photo.
    Thanks AcaCandy,
    Still confused,

Do you have Word or something similar installed? If so, was it installed prior to the scanner? If so, take a look on the 'file' menu and see if you have an option to 'acquire from' scanner.

Did the scanner come with some type of ocr program....like Omnipage Lite? If so, did you install this?

    Sorry I didn't complete my message. Hit a button I shouldn't have !
I now can go to Abbyy Fine Reader & scan from there, which I have not done in the past. There I was able to translate the page & then I saved it in my documents. It was then a .txt file. Then I right clicked on proterties & was able to choose the program where I wanted said file to open. I choose Word, & lo & behold it came up in word, where I am now able to change whatever I want with text etc.
Something in your message, (I'm not sure???) made me try this, so even though this was not in your information relating to the problem, I think it is solved.
    Thanks again AcaCandy, much appreciated.
    Lucy:) :) :) :) :)
