My unfortunate saga continues. For weeks now I have been trying to install a Linksys LNE100TX ver 5.1 LAN CARD
It continues to freeze the computer. After install windows Me freezes at the updating hardware box. I have tried installing the software first and then after rebooting. When the update box appears I have tried putting in the CD and it still freezes. I have cleaned the registry and everything else suggested. At one point after the card was in different problems occurred and I had to use RESTORE to fix the computer. At that point the card was in but the computer did not recognize it. Used adding new hardware and it did not find it. Tried to manually do it and got stuck again at the updating box. I did disable the dial up modem I have and tried the whole thing all over and got the same results. I checked for conflicts and did not find any. Being a novice at this it is very frustrating trying to correct problems. Everyone, Dell, Linksys and help boards all say it should and will work but I can't get there. I even thought upgrading to XP might be the answer but I would rather not do that if it will be creating another headache. One thought was this card uses the same "info/protocol" (probably wrong word), "settings" maybe that the modem does. But after disabling it I still got nowhere. I tried another slot and same thing, changed the card to a new one and ditto. If it takes uninstalling the modem info that defeats the purposes as the modem would be a back up if the DSL is down. Oh yeah at one point after installing the Linksys CD and it freezing I had a great idea of uninstalling it. That destroyed my modem settings totally and that is when I used Restore. Have gotten message the CD did install program but windows will NOT update the hardware. ANy and all assistance will be greatly appreciated. Matthew

Double posting is not going to help. It only confuses things.

    Keep things together.
