    A number of things gentlemen.

    1. I downloaded IE6 early release a long while ago, had it for a few months then resorted back to 5.5, as it was installed when I changed my ISP, now it is version 5 for some reason, when I go to Help >> About Internet Explorer, the version is obviously 5, but the version number says 6.0.2600.

    2. A few days ago my Internet Explorer crashed and up came the blue screen of death. Rebooted, came online, tried to load up a chatroom but it failed, tried to sign into MSN Messenger, but it failed, tried to log in to a secure https site, but it failed. It doesn't work in Netscape neither, so I thought it might have been the Virtual Machine, reinstalled that, doesnt work. Reset java settings to default, didn't work. Seems no java applets work.

Any ideas? And please don't say upgrade to 6, because I'm on a 56k Dial-up and don't have that time to spare!

    Best Regards,
    Éamann ó hAodha

    when I changed my ISP

Did this new ISP provide you with dialup software or IE by any change?

Infact you could still help me with the conflicting versions issue. It provided me with dial-up software I believe and IE 5.5.

About Internet Explorer, the version is obviously 5, but the version number says 6.0.2600.

I'm not sure why you say your version is "obviously 5 ". It looks like the first release of IE6, since there is SP1 and about 5 security patches that have been put out. The latest is
    version 6.0.2800.1106IC.

Are you on AOL, Earthlink, etc?

In build it isn't 6, its old style 5. I'd take a screenshot to show you, but due to my connection problem reoccuring (see number 2 of my post above) it seems I can't log into my FTP.

Trust me its 5. Any ideas to my second problem, as its popped up again.

    Best Regards

Take a look in your registry, start, run, type "regedit ". Then go to this folder and see what the IE version is.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

If there is no value given, then you have an improper installation, and you need to reinstall.

    Here's the link.

Version : 6.0.2600.0000, its frying my head this. I've been on to my ISP tech support about problem 2, and they have no clue.

    My ISP is utvinternet.ie
    A local provider.

Followed a paragraph on that link you gave me there, the shdocvw.dll file tells me my version is 5.00.2919.6307.
