    Hi,
Trying to install Windows 98 se on a Comapq Deskpro that did have Inux on it. I formatted the HDD and strated to install 98Se and when it gets to the "detecting Hardware" (after entering the licence number) it comes up with the BSoD "Memory Parity error ". I have re-formated the HDD and strated the install again only to come to this problem again, i have changed the RAM, used both slots, used RAM from anouther Compaq the same as this one, and even tryed good old Kinsgton Ram but none of this has worked. Same error comes up. The error never once came up with linux installed. But going back to Linux is not an option, as it is for a public internet machine..

I have no idea so any help would be apprecated.

No i dont think it is, I had already read that article.. Windows does not even start, so how am i spose to install the drivers for it? Actually Windows dose not even finish the install..
The main problem here is that i cannot find the "actuall" name of the PC, i know its a Compaq Deskpro, but someone with brains thought it would be good to pull all the stickers of it..
The graphics is on board, but i cannot find a chip to say what it is..
Thanks for your help...is there a way to install newer drivers during the install option.??? I dont think there is but you never know...

Have you done an fdisk...then a format...and lastly... do you have the full version of Windows 98 to install?

    *edit*

Yeh i did, lke i said ive already cheaked out the Knowledge base, and i couldnt find anything in there even close to this problem, that being getting this error while installing..
It deffently not a ATI RAGE... um what else would you need to know...I can tell you that it is a Intel chipset..and that i cannont find out exactly what it is, oh its a socket 378....only takes PC100....um anything else you might need to know??

Really this is such a annoying problem, as i was mucking around with linux on it yesterday and i kno wit works..The customer brought it in to change to windows...because its going in the local NH as an public accsess ineternet computer...

Hi Steven, to find out what all is on that box download and install AIDA32 from Here . Download the Enterprise Edition, exe self installing file. Run it and it will tell you everything you want to know about that box and probably some things you don't want to know. BTW it's freeware.!!!:D
