I am running Win 98SE, IE ver. 5.00.2919.6307CO. ISP is MSN.

This system has been stable for 2.75 yrs. A few days ago I noticed when I click the search button on the tool bar I get the following msg:

Sorry, the system is not working properly.

The search window on the left of the browser opens up but I can get rid of the error?? Went to add/remove programs to fix IE but I am still getting the error? Any one have a fix? Also, the new and customize tabs cause the same error msg.

    thank you!!

    Hi Titan7

Alot of people are expieriancing that same problem .
Hopefully it will start working soon, I wonder though why it works for some and not others.

    Good luck

    IE 5 search issue

Thanks for the reply. It really strange that all of a sudden it stopped working? If it's a software issue I guess it's not going to fix itself? MSN told me that it's not their network.

Would you advise me to leave it alone, or upgrade to IE 6?

Have all of the bugs been worked out of it yet?

    Thanks.

    Titan7 Hi

I would leave alone for now , but given the chance I would always upgrade,
If you decide to upgrade wait though , till a BBS member steps in to advise, in any case I dont think it will fix the search problem.
    !!!!!!!!!!!
Ive been watching ms news groups, they seam to think this problem is confined to IE6 sp1 and the recent upgrades, are advising people to get the google toolbar or search from google's home page.
Curious ive got iE6 with Sp1 and my search button had that problem only once,,then again I was only testing it just to see if it worked..
Heres ms newsgroups take on the problem.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I click on the SEARCH button in IE6, I get this
error: "Sorry, the system is not working properly." I've
reset my settings but it doesn't seem to correct the
    issue - any suggestions?

a little uncertaintity as to the cause, the best thought right now is
that it's due to a problem with a recent "Critical Update ". No one's
come up with a workaround so far, so until MS gets it straightened out,
I would suggest that you use Google for searches, here: www.google.com
and/or install the Google Toolbar here: http://toolbar.google.com/

I hope you gave SpyBot or Adaware better yet both,,,they are free, for spyware prevention--highjacking..
and updating to , to keep ahead of the rat-race
