Ok, this has gone from being mildly amusing to completely infuriating.

I've recently updated with SP1. Since then, Windows has been overcome with frequent latency, especially when running Winamp. But that's not the issue.

The issue is that it seems to leave file locks open even after I've closed a file. TEST CASE! Having a few files open from a network server.... naturally, you can't delete the files while they're open. But after I CLOSE the files, I try to delete one, and one of two things happens:

    1. The file deletes. I then hit refresh, and presto, it's back.

    2. I get an error stating the file is in use.

Now, when I log onto the fileserver and type net file to get a list of active file connections, I'm still listed there as having files open. Manually terminating the file IDs works. I'll be damned if I'm gonna keep doing that tho.

On top of that, Windows has given me an error twice today stating that "the file could not be moved. This data has been lost. There may be a problem with your network connection or hardware ". OK, so it COULD be a hardware problem. Not likely, and it's too much of a coincidence that XP service pack was installed the same day that my network card or other hardware (about 1 year old now, tops) went kaboom.

I thought it might be a problem with 2000server (which is what our fileserver uses) but other users in the office have had no such problems. ANY IDEAS? If uninstalling SP1 is the only answer, I'll give that a go. But I'd LOVE to know why it's doing this.
