I have a friend who recently changed his modem to a USR Ext. 56k/v90 and also reloaded windows 98.....Now any web site that he goes to is "Very Very" distorted, but his desktop or anyother app. looks fine.....Not for sure the drivers for his Video Card is right (but the desktop looks fine)...It's on a PB and we aren't for sure what Video Card is in it.......But since this is Web Sites only and not the desktop.....Would you tend to lean towards the modem or the video card??? I would suppect the modem, but it's a brand new one........Has anyone else ever seen this????
    Thanks for your Help.......

I take that PB mean Packard Bell.

Along with the new Modem Win98 98 has been re-installed.

Only problems appear to be the Video on the Intenet.

I would not suspect the Modem.

I would suspect the Video card drivers to be the culprit.

    Got to ask here.

Why was 98 re-installed ? Was it do to problems ?

From my own personal experience with one ( and only one ) PB machine if things are not done THEIR WAY nothing may work right.

    OOPS !!

If the former modem was an internal plugin card or builtin, was it removed or disabled ?

Yes it's a Packard Bell......If it's the video card, why isn't the desktop distorted??? I don't know, I think he just reloaded windows.....Something else I noticed is, that when you go to set the colors for the monitor, your choice is "2 colors or 16 colors" and that's it ....Now that's "******* Up "...........

That is not a ****** UP. That is normal after a Windows re-install.

That nails it right down tight to the Video drivers.

You have to find out what video card is and get the proper drivers.

Or is the Video builtin to the MotherBoard ?

But that would still require finding out what it is and getting drivers.

You might try opening the Device Manager, Select the display adapter , update driver , point it to the 98 setup .cab files and let it search for a newer driver.

Windows may or may not have drivers. but it should.

    From your earlier reply
I believe that says it all.

Your Windows at this time is setup using ALL default drivers.

And it will not change until you get the proper VIDEO drivers installed.

You may have to pull the card and find some name or numbers and do an Internet search for drivers.

Or, if your Firend has a CD that came with the machine then the required Video drivers may be on it.

As to the Internet. Most sites today require NO LESS than 800x600 256 colors. High color 16bit iis better yet.
