My dial up connections for the internet pops up when ever my computer is turned on. I have windows xp. It use to pop up when ever I clicked on the Internet Explorer icon. I look in the start folder to see if maybe there was something that I could turn off to stop it, but I had no luck.
    Can someone help me???? Thanks

    rmason,

Try going in to Internet Explorer

    Go to Tools>Internet Options>Connections.

Does 'dial whenever a network connection is not present' have a check in it? This will cause the dial-up connection to come up whenever your PC doesn't detect a connection - such as at Startup.

If so, check 'always dial my default connection' Click OK. This will restore it to only dialing up when you click on Internet Explorer.

    Ice.

Are you using Zone Alarm? It's a known issue with version three-point-something. Zone Labs promised a fix in the next version but I've read of reports of it continuing to occur.

According to Zone Labs, the only "fix," which is really a workaround is to set IE and OE to "never dial a connection. "

The other workaround is to uninstall Zone Alarm three-point-something and install Zone Alarm 2.6...which you can get from Old Version or Tiny Personal Firewall or Sygate Personal Firewall or that other free one I can't remember the name of.

    If you're not using Zone Alarm....errr.....nevermind. :)

You could try Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services, and disable the Remote Access Autoconnection Manager.

Trial and error! Disable items in MSCONFIG and then re-enable 'em one at a time and you should eventually discover the cause!

Dial-Up Connection Pop Up-Reply to Brett

Brett, can you tell me how to go about doing this? I know a little about computers but not that much. Is it very complicated to do?

I have tried everything else that the nice people has told me, but it still pops us at start-up. I just figure that it is something that I may have to live with.

    Thanks in advance!

It could be some spyware trying to phone home. Have you scanned for spyware? If not, download, install and run Spybot and/or AdAware (I use them both.) Let them clean up anything they find. (I leave Spybot at its defaults so it ends up only dumping the ones marked with a red exclamation mark and already checked. The ones in green are logs and most-recently-used-file lists which I use so I keep)

    POP-UP DIAL ON WINDOW

    Brett,
I ran the MSCONFIG, and did like you told me. I disabled everything, and re-enable everything one at a time. I found the one that I thought was giving me a problem, but everytime I re-booted it was checked again, and again.

I finally disabled everything and left it disable. The Pop-up window did not pop-up. I looked at the MSCONFIG start tap again, and to my surprise the one that I thought was the problem was the only one checked, so I left it alone, and left the other unchecked. The pop-up window has stopped poping up, so that was my problem, so I am now going to leave it alone.

For anyones information the one I left checked was "ctfmon c:\windows\system32\ctfmon.exe "

Thanks again for you knowledge and help.

    Robert

ctfmon is a harmless and stubborn Office app, the Cicero monitor.

"Ctfmon.exe monitors the active windows and provides text input service support for speech recognition, handwriting recognition, keyboard, translation, and other alternative user input technologies. "

    RMASON,

I dont think it is a good idea to leave all in msconfig disabled as there are system functions which need to be enabled. First & foremost if not aleady suggested get a full virus scan done with the latest updates. Then do the msconfig trick again 1 by 1 and be patient until you nail the *^*&*&.

    Cheers.

    Finally eliminated the Pop-Up Dial-Conn.

To all my friends out there, who gave me directions on how to solve this annoying problem, I finally did it!!!!

I went to msconfig, and disabled all the checks in the start-up tab.
I went and enabled them 1 by one, which will take patience.

The one that was giving me trouble was: C\Program Files\DIGstream\digstream.exe.

Just thought I would pass this on for some else that may be having this trouble.

Thanks again to all. I found this BBS sight by accident, and man it is a blessing. I am telling all my friends about it.:D

In case you're wondering what it is or does this is from pacs-portal .

DIGStream Cache Manager - part of ESPN Motion that periodically checks for new videos periodically, downloading them in the background is available. Starting ESPN Motion starts digstream automatically
